SINGAPORE COUPLE WALK NAKED
A CROWD cheered as a naked couple strolled down Lorong Mambong in Holland Village last Saturday evening. Singapore is getting more and more exciting.
A couple treated open air diners to a 15-minute naked parade in Singapore, triggering both embarrassment and applause for a scene almost unheard of in the conservative city-state.
There were more than 200 people and everyone was taking pictures, Even women were busy clicking and people were cheering, whistling and applauding like crazy. The couple, a Caucasian man and an ethnic Chinese woman in their 20s, had been arrested and released on bail.
If convicted under Singapore law, they could face a fine of maximum fine of $2000, up to 3 months in jail, or both.UPDATE 18 APR 2009
The woman is Singaporean E.K.Er, 24, who is studying at a Swedish university, and the man, a Swedish student on exchange here in Singapore, is J.Philip, 21.
She was also a member of Mensa, an association whose members are defined by their high IQs. According to the A*Star website, she is pursuing a PhD in infection biology at Karolinska Institutet, Sweden.
During her teen years, E K Er represented Singapore as a competitive ice skater in Skate Asia, the largest ice-skating competition outside the United States. Her father was quoted by a local free sheet as saying that his daughter is a nice and lovely girl, and the family is standing by her.
Both E.K.Er and J.Philip were charged on Friday of walking naked in public at Holland Village on Jan 24 at about 11pm under the Miscellaneous Offences (Public Order and Nuisance) Act.
If convicted, they may be fined up to $2,000 and/or jailed for up to three months. Their lawyer asked for an adjournment to write in to the Attorney-General's Chambers. The case has been adjourned to April 30.
As a Singaporean, I suppose many of you will feel ashame by the act of this 24 years old Phd student. She should have used her talent to do something good for the community, but instead showing her ugly naked body to degrade the image of Singapore women on the street. As a PhD student, I think something must had gone wrong in her mind. How come she was willing to make herself cheap for the sake of an 'Angmo' 3 years younger than her... walking naked in public?30 APR 2009
