An incredible true love story

An incredible love story has come out of China recently and
managed to touch the world. It is a story of a man and an
older woman who ran off to live and love each other in peace
for over half a century.

The couple had lived in peace for over 50 years

Over 50 years ago, Liu, a 19 year-old boy, fell in love with a
29 year-old widowed mother named Xu. At that time, it was
unacceptable and immoral for a young man to love an older
woman. To avoid the market gossip, the couple decided to
elope and lived in a cave in Jiangjin County in Southern
ChongQing area.

In the beginning, they had nothing, no electricity or even
food. They had to eat grass and roots they found in the
mountain, and Liu made a kerosene lamp that they used
to light up their lives. In the second year of living in the
mountain, Liu began and continued for over 50 years, to
hand-carve the steps so that his wife could get down the
mountain easily.

He hand-carved the 6000 steps so that his wife could get down the mountain easily.

Half a century later in 2001, a group of adventurers were
exploring the forest and were surprised to find the elderly
couple and the over 6,000 hand-carved steps.

Liu MingSheng, one of their seven children said, 'My parents
loved each other so much, they have lived in seclusion for over
50 years and never been apart a single day. He hand carved
more than 6,000 steps over the years for my mother's convenience,
although she doesn't go down the mountain that much.'

The couple had lived in peace for over 50 years until last week.
Liu, now 72 years, returned from his daily farm work and collapsed.
Xu sat and prayed with her husband as he passed away in her
arms. So in love with Xu, was Liu, that no one was able to release
the grip he had on his wife's hand even after he had passed away.

So in love

In 2006, their story became one of the top 10 love stories from
China, collected by the Chinese Women Weekly. The local government
has decided to preserve the love ladder and the place they lived as
a museum, so this love story can live forever.

INCREDIBLE TRUE LOVE STORY FROM VIETNAM

If you happen to spot an American man and a blind, disabled Vietnamese woman walking happily together down Ho Chi Minh City’s streets, it may just be Donald Lee Jones and Tran Thi Minh Tuyet, a couple whose love has triumphed over geographical distances, language barriers and heart-breaking misfortune.
Twenty-two years ago, Tuyet’s father brought home an iron table for the seven-year-old girl to study on.
She discovered a small object inside the table and took it out to clean it.
Tuyet had no way of knowing that it was an explosive device left over from the Vietnam War.
The device exploded, blowing off part of Tuyet’s arm and leaving her blind.
The accident did not dampen the young girl’s strong will, however.
After a period of depression, she grew determined not to allow her disabilities to stand in her way.
Tuyet was an exemplary student and despite her blindness, she finished high school with her peers.
She went on to study in the Department of English Linguistics and Literature at the HCMC University of Social Sciences and Humanities before taking a job at the French-based Gras Savoye Insurance Broker.
Last May, Jones came to Vietnam to meet Tuyet for the first time.
The two had met online and had been chatting for some time.
Even though he had known of her disabilities beforehand, Jones says he was moved seeing Tuyet for the first time and burst into tears at the sight of the girl.
He soon left the country and headed back to the US, but Tuyet’s kindhearted smile stuck with him.
He told his relatives and friends back home about Tuyet’s life and her warm disposition.

The more than 60-year-old man says he had an epiphany and it reinvigorated his love of life.
Jones says he felt his spirit had long been dead to such sparks of emotion until he saw Tuyet for the first time.
“Some people seem to be fearful of her. I don’t understand why,” he said.
“They fail to know that someone’s values do not stem from eyes or arms but from brain and heart. I loved her life and thoughts.”
Jones began chatting with Tuyet more often and asked her to teach him Vietnamese.
Seven months later, he decided to sell his construction company and leased his home so he could travel halfway around the world again.
Each day, he walked Tuyet to work or helped her on the bus.
Eventually, he began driving and took Tuyet on the back of his motorbike.
Jones continued to study Vietnamese and was determined to persuade Tuyet’s parents to allow him to marry her.
Tuyet’s parents were understandably apprehensive and suspicious as the American man was so much older than their daughter.
They worried too that the couple’s differences in language and culture would be a problem.
Jones persisted, however, and made a concerted effort to learn Vietnamese customs and cook traditional dishes.
He even came to Tuyet’s family home and helped out with farming activities.
Tuyet’s parents slowly came to accept the foreign man and eventually welcomed him as their son-in-law.
Last weekend, at a wooden house in a suburb of the mountainous town of Da Lat in the Central Highlands, Jones began to cry once again and said “Co ay dep qua!” (She is so beautiful!) upon seeing his bride taking slow steps toward the ancestral altar at their wedding.
The bride wore a rosy ao dai (Vietnam traditional dress) and guests say they were touched seeing the two together.
“No eyes, no arms, it is not important. The point is we love each other,” Jones said. “We will stay in Vietnam and we want to help the disabled.”
“I will tell her what I see,” he continued. “She has never had enough courage to run. I will take her hand to run on the beach and the farm.”

INCREDIBLE TRUE LOVE STORY FROM ENGLAND

Forget spoilt footballers and minor Royals. Yesterday, Miss Michelle Clifford married Lance-Corporal Martyn Compton.
And the terrible injuries he suffered in Afghanistan could not diminish the towering, inspirational love they share

Miss Michelle Clifford with Lance-Corporal Martyn Compton before the terrible injuries.

The walk down the aisle yesterday was only a matter of yards. Yet for Martyn Compton it meant everything. Indeed, his determination to make the distance was matched only by that of the beautiful young woman he was about to marry.
And when he falteringly held out his hand for her to slip the gold ring on his finger, they both finally fulfilled the dream they had fought desperately against all the odds to make a reality.
It was so nearly destroyed when, two years ago, Martyn, a Lance-Corporal in the Household Cavalry, was badly burned in an ambush in Afghanistan. Suffering from 70 per cent burns, he was in a coma for three months.
When he regained consciousness, his once handsome face and honed body were ravaged. His eyelids had been fused inside out and he had lost his ears, nose and hair. He was told he might never walk, nor use his arms, again.

His catastrophic injuries came to represent the tragic cost of British troops being sent to the Middle East, and his heroism in overcoming them made headlines around the world.
Among those ‘humbled’ by Martyn’s bravery was his friend and colleague Prince William, who paid tribute to his bravery in a special City Salute pageant in London in May. ‘Compo, you’re more famous than me,’ the Prince joked recently. ‘You’re in the papers every day.’
Then, last month, his ordeal made the news again when it emerged the Ministry of Defence had offered him only £163,000 compensation, far less than the maximum of £285,000.
But to his bride Michelle he is not merely a symbol of courage, nor yet another serviceman who has been bitterly betrayed by the MoD, he is her husband, her soul mate and the man she loves just as much now as the day they first met.

And their wedding yesterday – held at a Kent manor house and in the company of their 100 closest relatives and friends – was as much a mark of Michelle’s own strength and devotion as it was a testament to their love for each other.
‘People keep saying I’m inspirational and strong,’ says Michelle. ‘But I can’t see it myself. It never crossed my mind that I couldn’t handle what had happened. I fell in love with Martyn’s cheeky smile and sparkling eyes. When I look at him now that is still what I see.’

Amazing True Love Story

A Devon man has married an old flame after a love letter he wrote 10 years ago which went astray was discovered behind a fireplace by workmen in Spain.
Steve Smith, of Paignton, met Spaniard Carmen Ruiz-Perez 17 years ago when she was an exchange student in Devon.
The pair had been engaged but their relationship fizzled out after Ms Ruiz-Perez went to live in Paris.
Mr Smith sent her a letter via her mother's home in Spain but never heard back until she read it a decade later.
Ms Ruiz-Perez, who had never married, rang her former boyfriend and they met in Paris a few days later.
Like a storyline straight from Hollywood, the pair, now both aged 42, fell in love all over again and tied the knot in Brixham on Friday.
Mr Smith, a factory supervisor, said: ''When we met again it was like a film. We ran across the airport into each other's arms.
''We met up and fell in love all over again. Within 30 seconds of setting eyes on each other we were kissing.
"I'm just glad the letter did eventually end up where it was supposed to be.''
However, it seemed that Cupid and fate worked hard to ensure it did as a catalogue of events could so easily have led to them never meeting again.
Mr Smith originally wrote to Ms Ruiz-Perez's flat in Paris but she had moved and his letter went unanswered.

Still determined to trace his lost love, he wrote her another letter and sent it via her mother's villa in Spain.
The letter was put on the mantelpiece and forgotten about before it slipped down the back of the fireplace.
It was only when workmen carrying out renovations on the villa removed the fireplace that they discovered the letter and passed it on.
However, it was 10 years old and Mr Smith had moved house - but fortunately he had kept his old phone number.

Ms Ruiz-Perez, who has now become Mrs Smith, described the wedding as the pinnacle of an ''amazing'' love story.

"I never got married and now I've married the man I have always loved," she said.

''When I got the letter I didn't phone Steve right away because I was so nervous. I nearly didn't phone him at all.

''I kept picking up the phone then putting it down again but I knew I had to make the call.''

In this world of chaos and destruction it is good to hear that good things still happen to good people. Every time you turn the TV on, or read the paper all you see is murder and sorrow. We should have more stories like these more often so as to motivate us into doing good things for each other. These stories have really put a smile on my face ,and a smile in my heart. Thank you and may the good lord bless all of you.

I am impressed with the story from Vietnam. I met Tuyet in 2006 when I visited Vietnam during a Christmas celebrations. She is disabled but she is very clever, I bet, more cleverer than most of the sighted people. And she is very kind too.

I am very happy to see that she's found her love of life.

    Good luck Tuyet...
    Congratulation to Mr. Lee.
