Maths prodigy, now a hooking call girl

“Sufiah has suffered so many knocks in her life. I just hope she can drag herself out of this life she has got herself into".

This is really sad. I feel so sorry for her. Everybody in this world has challenges and ups and downs in life.
Sufiah Yusof, the child Maths genius who won a place at Oxford University when she was just 13, has been found to be working as a prostitute, according to a report in London’s News of the World.
Sufiah, now 23, whose father Farooq is a Pakistani and mother Halimathon is from Johor, was reported to have entertained an undercover reporter in her flat in Manchester.
Claiming that she had posted her services for £130 (RM829) on the Internet, the newspaper said she had called herself Shilpa Lee on a hookers’ website. She is said to have advertised herself as “a sexy, smart student” who preferred “older gentlemen”.

The story in the newspaper comes just days after her father was jailed for sexually assaulting two 15-year-old girls as he home-tutored them in Maths.
Sufiah passed the Maths A-Level she needed for entry into Oxford at the age of 12.
Three years into Oxford, she sparked a massive police hunt after running away.
At the time her father bizarrely claimed Sufiah had been kidnapped and brainwashed by an organisation seeking the key to her intelligence.
But Sufiah sent an e-mail to her family describing her life under her father as a “living hell”.
She was found in an Internet cafe in Bournemouth where she had been working as a hotel waitress.
She refused to go back to her parents and instead was taken into the care of social services.
By then Farooq was in jail for three years for his part in a £1.5mil (RM9.57mil) mortgage swindle.

Sufiah married Jonathan Marshall in 2004

Sufiah returned to Oxford to complete the final year of her Masters in Maths but failed to finish the course after meeting trainee lawyer Jonathan Marshall.
They were married in 2004 but her parents and siblings failed to turn up. They divorced a year later.

The report, which carried grainy photographs of a semi-nude woman it claimed was Sufiah, said the girl met the reporter who posed as a client wearing a tiny skirt, leather boots and a tight T-shirt. She was carrying three mobile phones.

She also told the reporter that she was studying for a Masters degree in Economics.
Sufiah gave no indication of any sadness at the jailing of her father the previous day. On Wednesday, Farooq, 50, was sentenced to 18 months at Coventry Crown Court for touching two 15-year-old girls when he was home tutoring them.
The report quoted her friend as saying: “Sufiah has suffered so many knocks in her life. I just hope she can drag herself out of this life she has got herself into.

“She deserves a much better life than this. Her gift has been a curse.”

UPDATE: 7 April 2008

I have no regrets, says Sufiah
Maths prodigy Sufiah Yusof, who is now working as a prostitute, claims she is living the life she wants without any regrets.
She does not think being an escort is sleazy and terrible and says her clients treat her like a princess in an interview with British tabloid News of the World.
“People think escorting is sleazy and terrible but I don’t see it like that,” she said in a no-holds-barred interview that was published with pictures of her in skimpy attire and sexy poses.
Sufiah claimed that she wanted to be in control of her life.
“I have never felt so confident about my body and I’ve had some of the best sex of my life,” she said.

Portrait of Carla Bruni to be auctioned

Nude Bruni photo sells for $91,000 in NY auction -

A nude photo of French first lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, standing in a pigeon-toed pose and covering her modesty with her hands, was sold Thursday in New York for $91,000, more than 20 times its expected price.
A buyer for a Chinese art collector bought the black-and-white image, taken by photographer Michel Comte in 1993 during her modeling days, Christie’s auction house said.

Carla Bruni Sarkozy 43, the French First Lady of less than 2 months, has once posed nude for photographer Michel Comte during her modelling days in 1993. Now one of those photos has been put up for auction at Christie's New York and is expected to fetch around US$4000 in April.
A nude photo of the French First Lady Carla Bruni has been put up for auction at Christie's New York, just hours ahead of her and her husband President Nicolas Sarkozy's state visit to Britain.

The image, by photographer Michel Comte, shows a younger Miss Bruni facing the camera wearing no more than a thoughtful expression, her hands crossed at waist height to cover her modesty.
It is expected to fetch around £2,000 when it goes under the hammer on April 10.

UPDATE: July 2008

GORGEOUS Carla Bruni says it would be “a dream” to have children with French president hubbie Nicolas Sarkozy.
The 40-year-old said this would make her the happiest person in the world — but she ruled out fertility programmes.
Ms Bruni said: “I’d love to have children with Nicolas. I hope to, if I am young enough.
“It would be a dream. If it comes, I’d be the happiest person in the world, but if it doesn’t come, I’m not going to tempt the devil.”
She said in an interview in the September issue of Vanity Fair magazine: “I was already 39 when I met him.
Carla has a son, 7-year-old Aurélien Enthoven, from a previous relationship; Nicolas has three children and two step-children from previous marriages.

French first lady Carla Bruni wins damages over nude image on bags

A French court has ordered a clothing firm to pay euro40,000 ($56,200) in damages for distributing bags bearing a nude image of France's first lady, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy. The photo dates from Bruni-Sarkozy's modeling days. She was seeking euro125,000 in damages from clothing vendor Pardon, which distributed the bags to its clients.
Pardon says it will appeal Thursday's ruling, handed down by a court on the French Indian Ocean island of Reunion, where the company is based. The firm also is promising to destroy the 5,500 Bruni bags it has left. The court ruled that Pardon violated Bruni-Sarkozy's ownership rights to her own image. Her lawyers have said that she would donate any damages to charity.

Dad Magazine for Filipino men

Playboy magazine is launching in the Philippines next month and will be targeting mature men who like well-written articles and tasteful photographs of semi-nude women.
"Maxim and FHM are called laddy magazines. We can be called a Dad magazine," Beting Laygo Dolor, Playboy Philippines' editor, told Reuters on Thursday.
"We are targeting a more mature market, Filipino men, 30 and above."

"There will be no full frontal nudity."

Mens' magazines with risque photos are already sold in the Philippines, which despite being a largely Catholic country has a macho culture that encourages promiscuity.
Although rural areas are more conservative, Manila and other large cities have a relaxed attitude to sex.
Dolor, who describes himself as a "bad Catholic", said the religion's values had influenced the decision not to go for a raunchier look for the magazine.
"I don't want to be ashamed to show it to my mother," said the father of four. "I have daughters in their twenties. It's something that I want them to also enjoy. I want them to be proud of their Dad."
Founded in 1953, Playboy has some 20 local editions around the world that cater to local taste rather than simply exporting and translating its U.S. content.
The magazine will be sold across the Philippines at a cost of 199 pesos ($4.76) and 70 percent of the content will be local.
Playboy's first edition in Indonesia in 2006 sparked protests although it had no nudity and less flesh visible in the issue than many other magazines on sale in the world's most populous Muslim country. Its editor was cleared of distributing indecent pictures last year.

Dolor said he didn't expect any uproar when his magazine hits the news stands on April 3.

"It's supposed to be a very good read," he said.

What On Earth Is A Eunuch?

In ancient China castration was both a traditional punishment (until the Sui Dynasty) and a means of gaining employment in the Imperial service. At the end of the Ming Dynasty there were 70,000 eunuchs (宦官 huàn'guān, or 太監 tàijiān) in the Imperial palace. The value of such employment - certain eunuchs gained immense power that may supersede that of the prime ministers -- was such that self-castration had to be made illegal. The number of eunuchs in Imperial employ had fallen to 470 in 1912, when the employment ceased.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
A eunuch is a castrated male —
one who has had his testicles and penis removed.

The eunuch was known to play a part in the emperor's sex life .

First, in every afternoon the eunuch would present a tray with many bamboo sticks with the names of the empress, consorts,………etc on them.
The emperor would pick out the one he would like to sleep with that night.
And in the evening, the girl chosen would take a bath, get naked and wrap herself with a thick mattress with the help of the eunuch.

When the time comes, two eunuchs would hold both ends of the rolled mattress and enter the Emperor’s residence.
Then they would unroll the mattress and the naked girl would be out on the floor. The eunuchs would then leave the room, close the door, and the naked girl would crawl to the emperor’s bed.
The eunuchs would wait silently outside the emperor’s bedroom. When the orgasm came (I guess judged by the volume of sound inside the room), the eunuchs would shout loudly to the emperor: “My Lord, please take care of your dragon body!”

The advice means that the emperor should not unleash his sperms. (Per Taoist doctor, one drop of sperm is equal to many drops of blood.)

China's last eunuch spills sex, castration secrets

Jia Yinghua (L), the author of "The Last Eunuch of China", poses with China's last eunuch, Sun Yaoting, at Sun's house in Beijing in this 1996 handout photo.

BEIJING, March 15 – Only two memories brought tears to Sun Yaoting’s eyes in old age – the day his father cut off his genitals, and the day his family threw away the pickled remains that should have made him a whole man again at death.
China’s last eunuch was tormented and impoverished in youth, punished in revolutionary China for his role as the “Emperor’s slave” but finally feted and valued, largely for outlasting his peers to become a unique relic, a piece of “living history”.
He had stories of the tortuous rituals of the Forbidden City, Emperor Pu Yi’s last moments there and the troubled puppet court run by the Japanese during the 1930s.
He escaped back to the heart of a civil war, became a Communist official and then a target of radical leftists before being finally left in peace.
This turbulent life has been recorded in the “The Last Eunuch of China” by amateur historian Jia Yinghua, who over years of friendship drew out of Sun the secrets that were too painful or intimate to spill to prying journalists or state archivists.
He died in 1996, in an old temple that had become his home, and his biography was finally published in English this year.
It unveils formerly taboo subjects like the sex life of eunuchs and the emperor they served, the agonising castrations often done at home and also often lethal, and the incontinence and shame that came with the promise of great power.
“He was conflicted over whether to tell the secrets of the emperor,” said Jia, adding that Sun preserved a loyalty to the old system because he had dedicated so much of his life to it.
“I was the only person he trusted. He did not even confide in his family, after they threw away his ‘treasure’,” Jia added, using traditional eunuchs’ slang for their preserved genitals.
They were discarded during the chaotic 1966-76 Cultural Revolution, when having anything from the “old society” could put lives at risk.
“He only cried about two things; when telling me about the castration and about the loss of his ‘treasure’,” said Jia, who works as an energy bureaucrat, but devotes all his spare time to chronicling the dying days of Imperial China after a childhood enthralled by the eunuchs and princes who were his neighbours.
Over years of painstaking research, he has gleaned arcane details about every aspect of palace life, along with secrets about the emperor’s sexuality and cruelty that would look at home on the front page of tabloid newspapers.
For centuries in China, the only men from outside the imperial family who were allowed into the Forbidden City’s private quarters were castrated ones. They effectively swapped their reproductive organs for a hope of exclusive access to the emperor that made some into rich and influential politicians.
Sun’s impoverished family set him on this painful, risky path in hopes that he might one day be able to crush a bullying village landlord who stole their fields and burnt their house.
His desperate father performed the castration on the bed of their mud-walled home, with no anaesthetic and only oil-soaked paper as a bandage. A goose quill was inserted in Sun’s urethra to prevent it getting blocked as the wound healed.
He was unconscious for three days and could barely move for two months. When he finally rose from his bed, history played the first of a series of cruel tricks on him – he discovered the emperor he hoped to serve had abdicated several weeks earlier.
“He had a very tragic life. He had thought it was worthwhile for his father, but the sacrifice was in vain,” Jia said, in a house stacked with old books, newspapers and photos.
“He was very smart and shrewd. If the empire had not fallen there is a high chance he would have become powerful,” Jia added.
The young ex-emperor was eventually allowed to stay in the palace and Sun had risen to become an attendant to the empress when the imperial family were unceremoniously booted out of the Forbidden City, ending centuries of tradition and Sun’s dreams.
“He was castrated, then the emperor abdicated. He made it into the Forbidden City then Pu Yi was evicted. He followed him north and then the puppet regime collapsed. He felt life had played a joke at his expense,” Jia said.
Many eunuchs fled with palace treasures, but Sun took a crop of memories and a nose for political survival that turned out to be better tools for surviving years of civil war and ideological turbulence that followed.
“He never became rich, he never became powerful, but he became very rich in experience and secrets,” Jia said. – Reuters

The existence of lesbianism in those days.

Double-headed dildoes have been unearthed in Han princely tombs, and confirm the existence of lesbianism in those days. Love between women in the imperial palaces is recorded at least until the Ming dynasty of China from 1368 to 1644

Under the Ming, written and pictorial sources depicting lesbianism multiplied. Many works of pictorial erotica from this period include lesbian or bisexual content; most naughty novels feature young women experimenting with each other.

Women's sexual practices included frottage (which was called "grinding beans [to make] tofu," or mo doufu), cunnilingus, and mutual masturbation. They also used bronze, wood, and ivory phallic instruments, which were denoted by such names as "dumb husband" (bu yu xiansheng), "Master Horn" (jiao xiansheng), or "Cantonese love" (Guangdong renshi).

Masturbation by men was seen as unhealthy and forbidden, for it was said to cause a complete loss of his vital yang essence. Women could masturbate freely as they were said to have an unlimited yin. Medical texts only warned women against masturbation with foreign objects which were believed to injure the womb and internal sexual organs.

An incredible true love story

An incredible love story has come out of China recently and
managed to touch the world. It is a story of a man and an
older woman who ran off to live and love each other in peace
for over half a century.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
The couple had lived in peace for over 50 years

Over 50 years ago, Liu, a 19 year-old boy, fell in love with a
29 year-old widowed mother named Xu. At that time, it was
unacceptable and immoral for a young man to love an older
woman. To avoid the market gossip, the couple decided to
elope and lived in a cave in Jiangjin County in Southern
ChongQing area.

In the beginning, they had nothing, no electricity or even
food. They had to eat grass and roots they found in the
mountain, and Liu made a kerosene lamp that they used
to light up their lives. In the second year of living in the
mountain, Liu began and continued for over 50 years, to
hand-carve the steps so that his wife could get down the
mountain easily.

He hand-carved the 6000 steps so that his wife could get down the mountain easily.

Half a century later in 2001, a group of adventurers were
exploring the forest and were surprised to find the elderly
couple and the over 6,000 hand-carved steps.

Liu MingSheng, one of their seven children said, 'My parents
loved each other so much, they have lived in seclusion for over
50 years and never been apart a single day. He hand carved
more than 6,000 steps over the years for my mother's convenience,
although she doesn't go down the mountain that much.'

INCREDIBLE TRUE LOVE STORY FROM VIETNAM

If you happen to spot an American man and a blind, disabled Vietnamese woman walking happily together down Ho Chi Minh City’s streets, it may just be Donald Lee Jones and Tran Thi Minh Tuyet, a couple whose love has triumphed over geographical distances, language barriers and heart-breaking misfortune.
Twenty-two years ago, Tuyet’s father brought home an iron table for the seven-year-old girl to study on.
She discovered a small object inside the table and took it out to clean it.
Tuyet had no way of knowing that it was an explosive device left over from the Vietnam War.
The device exploded, blowing off part of Tuyet’s arm and leaving her blind.
The accident did not dampen the young girl’s strong will, however.
After a period of depression, she grew determined not to allow her disabilities to stand in her way.
Tuyet was an exemplary student and despite her blindness, she finished high school with her peers.
She went on to study in the Department of English Linguistics and Literature at the HCMC University of Social Sciences and Humanities before taking a job at the French-based Gras Savoye Insurance Broker.
Last May, Jones came to Vietnam to meet Tuyet for the first time.
The two had met online and had been chatting for some time.
Even though he had known of her disabilities beforehand, Jones says he was moved seeing Tuyet for the first time and burst into tears at the sight of the girl.
He soon left the country and headed back to the US, but Tuyet’s kindhearted smile stuck with him.
He told his relatives and friends back home about Tuyet’s life and her warm disposition.

The more than 60-year-old man says he had an epiphany and it reinvigorated his love of life.
Jones says he felt his spirit had long been dead to such sparks of emotion until he saw Tuyet for the first time.
“Some people seem to be fearful of her. I don’t understand why,” he said.
“They fail to know that someone’s values do not stem from eyes or arms but from brain and heart. I loved her life and thoughts.”
Jones began chatting with Tuyet more often and asked her to teach him Vietnamese.
Seven months later, he decided to sell his construction company and leased his home so he could travel halfway around the world again.
Each day, he walked Tuyet to work or helped her on the bus.
Eventually, he began driving and took Tuyet on the back of his motorbike.
Jones continued to study Vietnamese and was determined to persuade Tuyet’s parents to allow him to marry her.
Tuyet’s parents were understandably apprehensive and suspicious as the American man was so much older than their daughter.
They worried too that the couple’s differences in language and culture would be a problem.
Jones persisted, however, and made a concerted effort to learn Vietnamese customs and cook traditional dishes.
He even came to Tuyet’s family home and helped out with farming activities.
Tuyet’s parents slowly came to accept the foreign man and eventually welcomed him as their son-in-law.
Last weekend, at a wooden house in a suburb of the mountainous town of Da Lat in the Central Highlands, Jones began to cry once again and said “Co ay dep qua!” (She is so beautiful!) upon seeing his bride taking slow steps toward the ancestral altar at their wedding.
The bride wore a rosy ao dai (Vietnam traditional dress) and guests say they were touched seeing the two together.
“No eyes, no arms, it is not important. The point is we love each other,” Jones said. “We will stay in Vietnam and we want to help the disabled.”
“I will tell her what I see,” he continued. “She has never had enough courage to run. I will take her hand to run on the beach and the farm.”

INCREDIBLE TRUE LOVE STORY FROM ENGLAND

Forget spoilt footballers and minor Royals. Yesterday, Miss Michelle Clifford married Lance-Corporal Martyn Compton.
And the terrible injuries he suffered in Afghanistan could not diminish the towering, inspirational love they share

Miss Michelle Clifford with Lance-Corporal Martyn Compton before the terrible injuries.

The walk down the aisle yesterday was only a matter of yards. Yet for Martyn Compton it meant everything. Indeed, his determination to make the distance was matched only by that of the beautiful young woman he was about to marry.
And when he falteringly held out his hand for her to slip the gold ring on his finger, they both finally fulfilled the dream they had fought desperately against all the odds to make a reality.
It was so nearly destroyed when, two years ago, Martyn, a Lance-Corporal in the Household Cavalry, was badly burned in an ambush in Afghanistan. Suffering from 70 per cent burns, he was in a coma for three months.
When he regained consciousness, his once handsome face and honed body were ravaged. His eyelids had been fused inside out and he had lost his ears, nose and hair. He was told he might never walk, nor use his arms, again.

His catastrophic injuries came to represent the tragic cost of British troops being sent to the Middle East, and his heroism in overcoming them made headlines around the world.
Among those ‘humbled’ by Martyn’s bravery was his friend and colleague Prince William, who paid tribute to his bravery in a special City Salute pageant in London in May. ‘Compo, you’re more famous than me,’ the Prince joked recently. ‘You’re in the papers every day.’
Then, last month, his ordeal made the news again when it emerged the Ministry of Defence had offered him only £163,000 compensation, far less than the maximum of £285,000.
But to his bride Michelle he is not merely a symbol of courage, nor yet another serviceman who has been bitterly betrayed by the MoD, he is her husband, her soul mate and the man she loves just as much now as the day they first met.

And their wedding yesterday – held at a Kent manor house and in the company of their 100 closest relatives and friends – was as much a mark of Michelle’s own strength and devotion as it was a testament to their love for each other.
‘People keep saying I’m inspirational and strong,’ says Michelle. ‘But I can’t see it myself. It never crossed my mind that I couldn’t handle what had happened. I fell in love with Martyn’s cheeky smile and sparkling eyes. When I look at him now that is still what I see.’

Amazing True Love Story

A Devon man has married an old flame after a love letter he wrote 10 years ago which went astray was discovered behind a fireplace by workmen in Spain.
Steve Smith, of Paignton, met Spaniard Carmen Ruiz-Perez 17 years ago when she was an exchange student in Devon.
The pair had been engaged but their relationship fizzled out after Ms Ruiz-Perez went to live in Paris.
Mr Smith sent her a letter via her mother's home in Spain but never heard back until she read it a decade later.
Ms Ruiz-Perez, who had never married, rang her former boyfriend and they met in Paris a few days later.
Like a storyline straight from Hollywood, the pair, now both aged 42, fell in love all over again and tied the knot in Brixham on Friday.
Mr Smith, a factory supervisor, said: ''When we met again it was like a film. We ran across the airport into each other's arms.
''We met up and fell in love all over again. Within 30 seconds of setting eyes on each other we were kissing.
"I'm just glad the letter did eventually end up where it was supposed to be.''
However, it seemed that Cupid and fate worked hard to ensure it did as a catalogue of events could so easily have led to them never meeting again.
Mr Smith originally wrote to Ms Ruiz-Perez's flat in Paris but she had moved and his letter went unanswered.

Still determined to trace his lost love, he wrote her another letter and sent it via her mother's villa in Spain.
The letter was put on the mantelpiece and forgotten about before it slipped down the back of the fireplace.
It was only when workmen carrying out renovations on the villa removed the fireplace that they discovered the letter and passed it on.
However, it was 10 years old and Mr Smith had moved house - but fortunately he had kept his old phone number.

Ms Ruiz-Perez, who has now become Mrs Smith, described the wedding as the pinnacle of an ''amazing'' love story.

"I never got married and now I've married the man I have always loved," she said.

''When I got the letter I didn't phone Steve right away because I was so nervous. I nearly didn't phone him at all.

''I kept picking up the phone then putting it down again but I knew I had to make the call.''

Audrina Patridge Hot Photos Surface

People in America never never get bored! Almost every few weeks, there are sex tapes, nude photos leaked from somewhere.

Audrina Patridge, one of the stars of MTV's "The Hills", had some naked pictures surface on Wednesday, taking just hours for them to be distributed all over the Internet.
The nude photos were taken years ago, soon after Patridge, 22, graduated high school. They were test shots for Playboy Magazine.
"I took these photos years ago, when I was just out of high school and beginning to model," Patridge said in her statement. "I was young and very trusting of others, and I didn't know to protect myself. It is a lesson learned, for myself, and hopefully for the young girls who look up to me."

Update: Apr 2009

Audrina Patridge has laughed off rumours suggesting that she's gone under the knife to achieve slimmer facial features, insisting she's 'just losing baby fat'.
The 23-year-old is set to launch her own reality show, which will follow Patridge's life on the professional as well as personal front.
However, the brunette has dismissed claims she's undergone plastic surgery to enhance her looks as she pitches the show to TV networks.
"People think I've got my nose done, my chin done. I just laugh at it. I'm just losing my baby fat - everyone grows up and changes," the Daily Express quoted her, as telling U.S. news show Extra.

Vanessa Hudgens

A similar scandal hit 19-year-old High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens last year. Photos of a completely naked Hudgens surfaced on the internet. She was also pictured posing provocatively in her underwear. She released a statement saying she was embarrassed and regretted taking the pictures.

Kristin Davis

Kristin Davis has reportedly been snapped in her very own celebrity sex tape.
The pictures have spread like wire fire across the internet, adding to speculation that the brunette in the video is Kristin Davis.
The so called sex tape alledgedly captures the alleged Sex (Tape) And The City star in a somewhat of a private act’!
Undeniably the brunette in the photos holds a remarkable resemblance to Davis, who plays the quiet and innocent Charlotte in Sex In The City.
Kristin has denied claims that she features in the video. ‘This is not a photo of Kristin Davis,’ a rep for the actress told OK!. ‘There is no sex tape.’

We shall see how this scandal develops. I hope it will not be a Hollywood version of Edison Chen sex photos scandals.

How old is too old to wear a mini skirt ?

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

At what age should you stop wearing mini?
Is there an age limit?
A mini-skirt is shorter than that? It hits somewhere on the buttock. Even if you have great legs and thighs, you need to pay attention to the back view. The older we are, our butts start to gravitate lower.

Update:1 million dollar offer withdrawn

A check of the Girls Gone Wild archives has potentially saved the video company $1 million.
Girls Gone Wild founder Joe Frances says he offered the million-dollar sum to 22-year-old Ashley Alexandra Dupre, the call girl linked to ex-New York governor Eliot Spitzer.
The money was for Dupre to appear in a non-nude spread for his company's new magazine, plus a chance to join the Girls Gone Wild tour bus.
However, Frances says somebody suggested at a staff meeting Tuesday that they check the archives.
Workers discovered they already had film of Dupre, who had shed her clothes for a video while partying as an 18-year-old in Miami.

How Hope work?

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Never give up,
Never surrender

"This is how hope works: it looks for the good in people and situations, rather than finding the worst; it discovers what can be done instead of throwing up its hands at what can't; it considers problems large and small, as opportunities to move forward when it would be easier to quit; it makes us human, helping us find the very best in ourselves for those around us and the situations we face. Korea Yi So-yeon will launch to the International Space Station

The man intended to be the first South Korean in space has been grounded for violating security protocol and will be replaced by a female biotechnology engineer, the science ministry said on Monday.

Ko San, 31, was dropped from the top pick for the April 2008 flight on a Russian Soyuz spacecraft and is now the backup for the mission after he removed sensitive training material from a Russian centre, the ministry said.

"The Russians emphasised the importance of abiding by the rules, as even small mistakes can bring about grave consequences in space," an official told a news conference, adding Ko appeared to have made innocent mistakes.

Ko, a technology researcher and a bronze-medal winner in a 2004 national amateur boxing contest, is being replaced by Yi So-yeon, 29, who is finishing her doctorate.

Yi will serve as a payload specialist with two Russian cosmonauts for a seven- or eight-day mission to the International Space Station.
The two were selected from a list of more than 36,000 candidates.

The Russian Soyuz spacecraft with South Korea's first female astronaut Yi So-yeon aboard landed safely in the Kazakh steppe on Saturday, according to the Mission Control Center.
The spacecraft carrying Yi, U.S. astronaut Peggy Whitson and Russian cosmonaut Yuri Malenchenko undocked with the International Space Station (ISS) and started trip home earlier Saturday.
The Soyuz capsule landed in the Kazakh steppe at 12:51 Moscow time (0851GMT), 20 minutes later than the planned time and 420 km from the planned landing site, the Misson Control said.
Rescue and search groups have evacuated the cosmonauts from the capsule. The cosmonauts are safe and sound, federal space agency head Anatoly Perminov told a press conference at the Mission Control.

Whitson and Malenchenko have worked in orbit for more than 191 days, while Yi, a 29-year-old biosystems engineer, arrived at the ISS on April 10 together with Sergei Volkov and Oleg Kononenko, the ISS Expedition 17 crew who will work in orbit till next autumn.
The capsule descended a ballistic descent path. It is an envisaged landing case, but the cosmonauts could feel high acceleration force, experts said.
Ballistic path returning is a rare case, which happened only twice in the ISS history - in 2003 and 2007.

On Sunday, Mahathir called for Abdullah’s resignation, saying his successor ‘has destroyed’ the National Front.
Mahathir has limited clout now in the ruling United Malays National Organization, the dominant party in the National Front, but his call was echoed by his son Mukhriz, an active party member.
Mukhriz Mahathir told The Associated Press he would hold a news conference later Monday with other UMNO members to demand Abdullah’s resignation.
‘The message is clear from the results of the elections. That’s the voice of the people. We have to respect it. It is a very humbling experience and points to dissatisfaction of the prime minister’s leadership,’ he said.
Mukhriz is the first UMNO member to openly demand Abdullah’s resignation, and his views could signal the beginning of an internal revolt.
Senior government lawmaker Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah stopped short of calling for Abdullah’s head. But he called the defeat a ‘historic crisis.’
‘The leadership team must wake from its slumber, face the truth and accept full responsibility for this debacle,’ he said.

UPDATE:From The Star 11 Mar 2008

Mukhriz denies calling on Abdullah to step down
BUTTERWORTH: Newly-elected Jerlun MP Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir has denied talk that he was calling on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to resign.
He said he heard about the messages sent via SMS and did not know who was behind it.
Mukhriz said he was confident the leadership would take appropriate measures to restore public confidence in Barisan Nasional.
“We appeal to the leadership to take the right initiative to remedy the situation,” he told a press conference at a hotel here yesterday.
“This has been a humbling experience. We understand the feelings of the rakyat and we are confident that all efforts would be made to make the rakyat return to the Barisan fold.”
Mukhriz said he called for a press conference to appeal to all parties to remain calm and rational, noting that the stock market took a tumble yesterday.
On his father Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s call to the Prime Minister to step down for crushing the coalition, Mukhriz appealed to the leadership to make the changes and take heed of issues.
