85-year-old Duchess of Alba is getting married

THE CONTROVERSIAL and eccentric Duchess of Alba is to marry her sweetheart Alfonso Diez in early October in a ceremony attended by her children.It's been a long relationship, but the Spanish court was against the union. After all, the duchess could not marry a commoner.
The intimate service is to take place in ‘strictest privacy’ and no friends will be invited to avoid offending those not included due to the limitations of space.
The 85-year-old Duchess of Alba, Cayetana Fitz-James Stuart, said to be the richest woman in Spain, had announced her intention to marry 60-year-old Alfonso Díez in September but has now amended her plans to early October in a statement sent to Europa Press.
The Duchess has also announced that the press will not be invited to attend the event, although “a statement and official photographs will be circulated,” and appealed to the media to “respect my peace and privacy.”
The Duchess of Alba inherited the Duchy in 1953. She has six children from her marriage with Luis Martinez de Irujo and Artacoz who died in 1972. Six years later the Duchess married former priest Jesus Aguirre, who became the 18th Duke of Alba. Aguirre died in Madrid in 2001.
The groom, Alfonso Díez, has waived his right to any inheritance from the Duchess’ estate. She is the third woman to hold the Duchy title within the family.
