Democratic Action Party (DAP) Secretary General Lim Guan Eng announced on Wednesday (20 Feb) that he has decided to contest in Penang and hoped to sweep 14 state seats in the upcoming elections.
Lim said that Penang DAP leaders requested him to contest in Penang over the past year. After discussions with the Central Committee and an in-depth consideration, he decided to contest in Penang in the 12th general elections.
Lim said he decided to lead the Penang DAP in breaking the hegemony of Umno, and to check and balance Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition.
“Hopefully people of Penang will accept my request and join the movement to change the country,” said Lim.
However, he did not mention whether he is going to contest in Penang Island or Seberang Perai. Neither did he say whether he is going to fight for both parliamentary and state seats. He said a formal announcement would be made a few days later.
